Nissan Patrol Y63 4WD Accessories — In Development at Offroad Animal
Offroad Animal is developing a full accessory range for the sixth-generation Nissan Patrol (Y63) ahead of its Australian release. Design and engineering are done in-house at our Mornington, Victoria HQ by a team in which every engineer holds a mechanical or aerospace engineering degree — not contract designers overseas, and not a catalogue bumper rebadged for the Australian market.
The planned Y63 Patrol range includes Toro and Predator bull bars, Scout bars, rock sliders, rear bars with rated recovery points, chase racks, roof racks, underbody protection and interior MOLLE storage panels.
How we develop a Y63 product
Development starts by 3D scanning the vehicle, so the design references the actual body and chassis geometry rather than approximations. Designs are modelled in SolidWorks and reviewed for compliance against AS4876.1-2002 and ADR 8/1, 42/04, 43/04, 69/00 and 73/33, with ADR 98 accounted for as it comes into effect. Prototypes are built at our local plant in Croydon, Victoria, then dimensionally measured, test fitted, and road tested to confirm every factory system still works — radar, cross traffic sensors, parking sensors and active cooling included.
Bull bars are then destructively tested in our own quasistatic test rig, where the bar is crushed under a 20-tonne ram. We also crash test the vehicle's factory crash beam and bumper system as a comparison baseline. Recovery points and winch cradles are load tested on our own rig so we can publish real ratings rather than estimates. Roof racks are tested to AS1235-2000, including forward and angled pull tests that simulate heavy braking, cornering, and the long-load wind lift that causes most roof rack failures.
Why Y62 products won't fit
The Y63 is a clean-sheet replacement for the Y62 after more than a decade in production. Front-end structure, crash beam design and sensor packaging all change, which means Y62 bull bars and bars cannot be carried across. Every Y63 product is designed from a scan of the Y63 itself.
Design features carried across the range
Front-access winch mounting, so the winch can be installed or serviced without removing the bar. An access hole for the winch clutch lever. Hi-lift jacking points on every bar. And approach angles pushed as far as the vehicle architecture allows — because we drive these things off road ourselves.
