79 Series Roof Rack FAQs
Can I run my existing gear on this, or do I need to start from scratch?
The Scout rack comes with T slot aluminium rails, so it plays nicely with standard M8 nuts and bolts. If you've already got tie downs, awning brackets, or other gear that uses that hardware, chances are it'll bolt straight on. No need to bin what you've already collected.
Is this roof rack hard to fit on my 79 series myself?
We'd call it a 3 out of 10 on the difficulty scale, so most people with basic tools and a Saturday afternoon can knock it over in one to two hours. Full instructions are downloadable as a PDF if you want to have a look before you buy.
Do I need to buy crossbars separately?
Nope you don’t need to buy crossbars separately. Unlike some roof racks on the market where you buy the rails and then go shopping again for crossbars, the Scout rack turns up as one complete kit, five aluminium cross rails, mounts, wind deflector, and all the nuts and bolts you need. Open the box, bolt it on, done.
What's actually holding my gear up there?
Our roof rack for the Series 79 Land Cruiser is rated to 150kg dynamic and 350kg static. Take off the 26kg the rack itself weighs and you've still got 74kg to play with off road, or 124kg if you're sticking to the black top.
Can I fit a light bar to it?
Yes, you can fit a light bar to the Scout roof rack for a 79 Series Land Cruiser and we made it easy. The wind deflector has a removable cover that opens up a mounting spot for a 42 inch LED light bar, no extra brackets or drilling required.
