The Wk2 Grand Cherokee has an interesting roof set up. Jeep put these 12 threaded buttons (6 per side) on the roof. Nice right. Well almost. First of all they used the front and back ones to hold the fancy channels used to take roof bars, then are held down via the 4 in the middle.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Roof Load Restrictions
Biggest problem is they are located on a section the the roof that can't really take much weight at all. Hence why Jeep gave the roof some crappy load rating. This is because if you put more load up there you're going to damage your roof.
Then we have some roof rack manufacturers (not Offroad Animal) who mount their roof rack directly onto these buttons. No no, bad choice. Say hello damaged roof if you put anymore weight up there (don't forget to add the weight of the roof rack too.)

Racked up another awesome OA product on my Jeep
Nice instructions helped a lot. Especially important to follow instructions to use M6 x1.0 die to clean threads as found the end ones covered by the plastic caps were rusted and needed cleaning out with a fine screwdriver and flushed with WD40 - crisis averted. One hint is to hold the nutserts with vice-grips while cleaning the threads to avoid loosening them. Was an easy fit otherwise. The paint finish looks great quality and overall well engineered and good looking, sturdy rack. Mine makes no wind noise or rattles. Suggestions I would add to improve the setup are: 1. Add 13 black nuts for the visible nuts at the front and rear of the bar. I had a box of these so swapped these out. Not critical but would be a nice touch. 2. I think the mounting bolts should be Torx (or at least offered as an option) as it would be a simple job for someone to steal the complete rack by undoing the 12 M6 bolts or 12 M8 bolts to remove the top section . I've going to order some M6 and M8 Torx bolts for my own piece of mind which will cost around $35. I've ordered button-head Torx bolts and for the moment used hex drive ones - just requires drilling 6 holes through the cross bars to give allen driver access (giving added security) 3. Be great to have optional bolt-on side bars similar to the Rhinorack Tradie rack - which are not removable which is bad if want to install a roof tent. Will make some myself when get time as will make it easier to loop tie-down straps and having side bars secures loads, like boards, better.

This roof rack is awesome. Hassle free delivery, easy to fit and crystal clear instructions. The rack is very sturdy and it has loads of attachment points. I've had no issue with road noise and it looks great . Overall - Delighted with the purchase and would highly recommend.

Roof rack for WK2
Rack is solid and well made. I’ve worked out how to attach TRED recovery track bracket but took a little thinking. For the most part it sits firmly on the roof without any noise. Except for drivers side front where there is a rattle where something doesnt quite sit right. Still working it out after tightening bolts, but noise is still there. Overall happy except for that rattle.
